1999 - 7.3L Diesel Dip Stick Oil Leak

I have an early made, August 1998, F250 Super Duty, with 7.3L diesel and auto trans.

It has an oil leak from the dip stick where it connects to the pan. The Ford garage cannot tell me it I need to remove the pan to fix it or if I can be "unscrewed" and a new "O" ring installed and tightened back up.

I can also give you the VIN if needed.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Here is a kit for it: Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines

There is a pdf in that link with instructions. Only thing I would add is to tie a string to the bore brush handle. If you drop anything in the pan you'll probably have to pull the engine so there is a little pucker factor. Not that hard took me a couple of hours to do.

Re: 1999 - 7.3L Diesel Dip Stick Oil Leak

Thank you for the link, parts availability, and instructions.

Let me visit with my buddy and see if we can "take this job on", as I do not want to drop whatever piece that could fall, into the pan.

Is it the wire brush that holds it up?

This is a wierd question, but I have some medical catheters we use in cattle embryo transfer, but is really a urethral catheter, it has a ballon on the bottom that you can "blow up" once you get it inserted. Would this work as well?

Not sure about the catheters but the bore brush works good to hold the adapter. Once the nut is off you have to push in the adapter and replace the o ring that seals on the inner part of the pan. International also sells a repair kit but I like the one from Dieselorings.
