2000 F350 Vibration

I am in need of some suggestions please. I have a 2000 Ford F350 4wd crew cab, short box, 7.3 diesel. I am trying to chase down an annoying vibration that I can feel in the steering wheel and also can be felt through the center console if I put my hand on it, and also through the gas pedal. Here's what I have done so far....New Moog upper & lower ball joints, new inner and outer tie rods, new shocks, new rotors, new pads, new calipers, & new steering stabilizer. Oh and also replaced all sway bar bushings, the hubs were bad so right now I am running without any hubs in it till I get new Warns. Of course had a front end alignment, and all new tires. So here is what I have figured so far...The vibration is slight and I believe I ruled out the drivetrain, I drove up a very steep hill and coasted down in neutral....vibration still present. Oh just so I can be as accurate as possible I also replaced the pinion seal and all 3 U-joints. Any input would be much appreciated.

Respectfully,
Nick

Re: 2000 F350 Vibration

I know there were some threads started on bad steering box installation bolts, where it bolts onto the frame. These bolts can come loose causing a loose feeling in the vehicle. Not sure if it would necessarily cause a vibration or not, but it's something to check.

Otherwise, I'd rotate the tires just to rule them out. If the vibration increases with speed, then you could possibly have bad Ujoints, or an out of balance driveshaft. Also, make sure the transfer case and transmission are securely mounted.

Those are great suggestions....never thought of those. The vibration is constant thru all speeds....I will check steering gear bolts and tranny mounts tomorrow,,,,thanks.

Got it!! It is unbelievable how just a very small amount of play in the pitman arm on these trucks makes a huge difference. I had about .060 -.080 play in the pitman arm, after adjusting the gear mesh it is like a new truck......thanks for your input.

Re: 2000 F350 Vibration

Glad you found the fix! Interesting how such little play could cause a significant change in steering.
