Have Autozone pull codes to see what comes up. They don't charge for that. If there was water in the holes, Maybe there's some still there and the spark is jumping.
Those engines will last a LONG time if serviced regularly. If you do need an engine, it's best to get the same kind. There are too many other parts that would have to be replaced. Check here to see what's available for it. IF, you need to replace it
