i was given a 2000 f150 super cab 4x4 off road edition with 251000 miles. it has a 5.4 engine,it was given to me because the previous owner couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. it idols rough and lacks power when driving.i replaced all plugs and coil packs and it got a little better but not much. plugs i took out were shot and there was water on most of the plugs,the upper part not the threads. any ideas on what might be wrong? thought about swapping motors but cant find any decent ones close. can you swap a 4.6 for the 5.4 without a lot of modifying? if so any ideas on what years would work? tried looking it up but cant seem to find any info on this. this is starting to drive me crazy. thanks

Have Autozone pull codes to see what comes up. They don't charge for that. If there was water in the holes, Maybe there's some still there and the spark is jumping.

Those engines will last a LONG time if serviced regularly. If you do need an engine, it's best to get the same kind. There are too many other parts that would have to be replaced. Check here to see what's available for it. IF, you need to replace it

Checked out codes and there was none. I also cleaned out plug holes with a rag to make sure no water or dirt remained.

Unplug the MAF sensor and see how it runs.

Given an unknown, you have to begin with a through test of cylinder compression and a look at the live data with A SCANNER.
Something has to show up.
Do this before making a decision on replacement..

thanks for advice i will check maf sensor and if that doesn't work will get it scanned hopefully its nothing serious because really don't want to do a motor swap
