Spark plug came completely out of my 2001 F-250 SD when I started it. Engine is the V-10. Broke the ignition coil. Spark plug has some thread wear but not too bad. Can I just try to reseat a new plug here along with a new coil? I tried but could not get the new plug to go in. Carbon fouling? Or, threads gone? What should I try?

it needs a helicoil....ford wont warranty it or recall it......and to get it fixed is roughly 2k

the reason why i know lol is cause i had it fixed in july but my extended warranty covered all but the coilpack....from all the articles ive read the triton engines have had this problem for years and its hit or miss if the engine will spit out a plug or not

THX. Plugs were replaced approx 10 mo ago. Not sure if shop just didn't seat it tightly...back plug, hard to get...and it backed out. Tried to work it in back in using lots of anti seige as lube. Lots of carbon fouling. Was able to get it 'bout quarer way back in. So, should I try to recut the threads at this point with a reamer? Nothing to lose, right?

Me, the plug blew out on my 2001 5.4L recently, and I am in the midst of pulling both cylinder heads "in order to fix it right."

My thinking is, if one blew, another one could, and rather than drive around waiting for the other shoe to drop, I'll pull both heads, take them to a head specialist and have him put in heavy duty inserts on all the spark plug holes.

Why?

The manual and other articles I've read say I can leave it in the truck.

Thus far, while it has been a major PITA, due mostly to clearance/access issues, I have removed pretty much everything necessary.

All I have left is to remove the exhaust manifolds (I soaked them a few days in PB Blaster and previously loosened all of them, just to be safe), then I should be able to loosen the bolts and remove both heads.

Do you know something about this that should concern me?

Perhaps you are thinking that some years require engine removal (I have read that, but '01 does not seem to be one of those years).

but if you can pull the heads without pullin the motor more power to you

Its alot easier to torque the heads and time the motor with it out.
