It's more than likely the TCCM, or transfer case control module. I'd shop around and find a used unit. RockAuto and car-part.com are good sources to look for a TCCM in your area. Not everyone calls it that, it's just a generalized term that MOST people should know. A bad TCCM can lead to no engagement and disengagement of the transfer case. I'm sure the transfer case itself is OK, but I wouldn't use it unless absolutely necessary until you get it fixed, or in this case, replaced. Stay away from dealers as they'll charge $500+ for a new TCCM. A used one should run you around $100 or so, and it can last just as long, if not longer than a new unit. Shop around.
