Question 2004 F250 Super Duty making squeaky noise

Whenever I put my truck in reverse it makes this annoying squeaky sound that is just getting worse over time. Can't fix it because we can't figure out what is causing this. Does anyone have any idea what it might be???

Re: 2004 F250 Super Duty making squeaky noise

It could be a U joint. They can make all kinds of sounds. The most common is a 'clunk' sound when putting the vehicle from park to drive or reverse, or neutral to drive or reverse.

Best way to diagnose yourself is to get four axle stands and jack up the vehicle. If it's 2wd then you only need to raise the back axle, put the vehicle in reverse and if it squeaks, then you can greatly narrow down the search - just be sure to bring a friend to sit in the cab while you search. I also don't recommend going under the vehicle while it is running, but you should be able to better hear where the sound is originating from.
