2007 F-250

I am thinking of buying a 2007 f-250 with a 5.4 in it. It has about a 100 000 miles on it which is pretty high for its age. The guy is being upfront with me telling me that it needs a new fuel pump cause it doesnt run a 100 %. He says it will start and run fine but after about 15 min of driving it starts to miss a little and if you need any power to climb or pull he says it will just start to quit all together. Let it cool off for a while and it will go again. Does anyone else think that it could be the fuel pump, or something else? He did replace the fuel filter so its not that. Its about a 14 hour drive for me to get it and I am flying my family out there to make it kind of a vaction at the same time. The last thing I need is to be standing half way home with a 1 year old and a 5 year old on the side of the highway, not to mention a not so impressed wife. Not being very familiar with fords I just dont want it to be a 2000 dollar ecu after couple of hours driving in the mountians. Any ideas?

Thanx Gerald

Why can't the seller get it fixed prior to the sale? That will let you know if that is the problem or not. A fuel filter in need of replacement can also starve an engine.

Re: 2007 F-250

The guy I am buying it from works out of province, and I think his banker was on the other line as I am buying it. I know he has absolutly no money to get it fixed until I pay him. I wanted him to take it to a Ford dealership to get it fixed but he thought I was crazy for the amount they charge! I told him I dont go to the bakery to buy fruit, and I dont go to smoking joe to get a ford fixed. The only reasong I am pushing it with him is because even if they have to install a new engine, the price that I am buying it at, I am still money ahead. He did install a new fuel filter, but he is still conviced that it is the pump itself. Any experience that I have had with pumps is that it either works or not. Never an in between.

Sounds like a little troubleshooting is needed. Either the power to the pump is low or the ground is corroded and causing low voltage. Most any repair shop could do the job. How about taking a pump with you and replacing it?

Re: 2007 F-250

I've had a problem on an older Dodge, the electrical connector to the pump had cracked (plastic) and was causing an intermittent power loss. It was a PITA until I had it checked out.
