2012 F150 2wd 5.0 2nd gear shudder

Howdy,
I'm new to this forum. I have a 2012 F150 2wd Supercab with a 5.0 that has a nasty shudder in 2nd gear. It has 40,000 miles on it as of today. I have had it to 2 dealers and both have told me that Ford considers this normal. It is worse when I have a load in the box but is non-existent below 0 degree's F. It happens between 1500 and 200 rpms but it is not present in that rpm range in any other gear. There is no difference if I activate the TOW/HAUL mode. The dealers have tried changing driveline angles, but I didn't think that was the cause and it made zero difference in the shudder. I am looking for suggestions.
I have had this truck since new. The issue has been present since day 1. I do not use, nor have I used E85 in this truck. I've been told that it is a "lugging" issue but I am not convinced due to the fact that it (the shudder) is not there in that rpm range in the higher gears.

I'd contact the Ford rep. Check the back of the owns manual for the number

Yep...I've done that. I'm still getting the "it's a normal condition" spiel. When my 72 year old mother asks me what that funny shudder is, you know something isn't quite right. Normal doesn't equal desirable...

Did they let you experience it in a similar truck?

I recommend looking for someone higher up in the food chain of Ford.

Re: 2012 F150 2wd 5.0 2nd gear shudder

Thinking about this from another angle, the transmission is only in second gear.
That narrows it down to some fault with either the second gear solenoid or the drive path through, in that gear.
My feeling is that it's program related and may be a TSB on the issue doing a PCM flash correction.
There are a lot of things that get into the action, from RPM, road speed, throttle position, load etc.
What driveline angle has to do with this is beyond me, for the specific fault.
Good luck.
