Hello - I have a 1989 F250 4X4 with 351, A.T. 46K original miles, very well taken care of. Recent tune up, etc., etc. On a recent trip with a 3,000 lb slide-in camper got around 7-8 mpg and now just driving very easy around town, still get about 8 mpg!! Is there any way to improve the fuel economy - short of buying a new truck?

Depends on a lot of factors. Namely the transmission (over drive or not) and the axle ratio. 3000lb camper or trailer for that matter won't net you much above 10mpg on a good day anyway. Speed is also a factor on the highway however city driving takes a greater toll.

Other than a tune up, check tire pressure there's not much else you can do to improve mileage. It's a truck.
