Question 351w timing without light

i just put a new distributer in went from point to electronic i need to know how to time without light i know it sounds dumb but it is a mudd truck and the harmonic is messed up it runs good until it warms up and in third gear on the road i gets a bad tapping i herd you can set by power breaking and adjusting until tap goes away but still taps in third or when im pulling trailer any help would be great

If you have a vacuum gauge, adjust timing "just to" the highest point of vacuum and lock it down.
