i have an 89' f150 lariat, 4x4, strait 6, 4 speed. the gas gauge stays past full, way past full. if i take the fuel sending unit out of the tank and plug it up and turn the key to the truck it works with the gauge when i move the float up and down but when i put it in the tank it stays way past full. any suggestions?

Is the float hanging up on something?

i dont think so because when i drive off road and hit bumps and what not, the gauge moves
