I have a 97 f-250 with a 5.8l engine. the oil pan is rotted out and needs changing. One of my buddies said that the engine has to be jacked up because the pan wont clear the crossmember. It looks like there is about 4 inches between the pan and the crossmember. Does the engine need to be jacked up ?
Yeah, you'll have to drop the pan 4 or 5 inches to be able to clear the crank journals. You could try it as it is and if it won't clear pull the motor mount bolts & use a block of wood & a floor jack and raise it a little under the harmonic balancer.
