97 F150 w V6 stalling issue
Greetings,
Have a 97 F150 supercab xlt w/ 4.2L EFI V6 and electronic auto trans....issue: when traveling at highway speed 1hr+, and then coming to a stop, engine wants to die....rpms drop below 300 and surge between 100 and 500, and motor sputters and will stall eventually unless put into neutral. If I kick it into neutral, rpm's recover and truck will accelerate and cruise without issue. Occurs year round, in drive, with electric OD off or on.Motor/truck is properly maintained, no error codes reported, all fluids nominal. No joy at local dealearship or mechanics, probably because they don't operate it long enough to get the issue to manifest. Have heard talk about the IAC motor, but am looking for some collective wisdon before I start buying parts. Also...motor has been replaced at dealership due to bad bottom end(a different issue) and the gripe followed the truck, not the motor. Not sure if IAC was replaced or not. Also, on first start of the day, drive is selected, but does not engage for 5-9 seconds....was told that was normal, however, this does not happen on other F-150's of similar year and equipment that I have tried. Will stall on occasion going from Drive to reverse as well, although not too often.
Have 2 other buddies that have the same issue, more or less, and am lookng for any sage advice.
Thanks in advance,
Tank
