I've got an 05 F250 super duty 5.4L and the foam lining on the air box tray has fallen apart and is peeling off. I was wondering if it is a specific type of high temp. foam or if I can just pick up some minimal compression foam from home depot or something to replace it. It seems that without the foam the truck has loss of power and feels as though it is misfiring. I am also looking into an injector problem for the misfire feeling but as far as the loss of power and bogging it seems that the lack of a proper seal around the tray could be the issue.
It's not high temp, but I'd be careful what you use or you may end up with the same problem that you have now or worse. If anything, by air sneaking past the filter, you shouldn't have a loss of power unless dirt and/or particulate is interfering with your sensors.
