All terrain tires that are good in snow

Anyone have a recommendation for a tire that behaves on pavement, yet handles well in off-road snow just as well? Tire size is p265/70/17's for my 2004 F-150 XLT.

If you saw my research site (the North rim of the Grand Canyon in winter) you would understand the need for on-road manners and off-road attitude.

Please provide your experience and opinions.

Re: All terrain tires that are good in snow

Everything is a compromise.... the very best off-road tires are lousy on the pavement, and vice-versa. On my old Explorer, I always ran Dunlop Radial Rovers... as good a compromise as I've found.

Now that the Explorer is gone and I have the F250 diesel, I bought a second set of wheels & tires. I run the OEM Pirelli tires in the summer, and switch to BFG All-Terrain T/A tires in the winter. I only have one winter on the BFGs, but they seemed to be pretty good in the snow, and they're not too bad on the highway... a little bit noisy and a little more rolling resistance.

AT's are great in the snow, and in the mud if you drop the air in them.
They are okay in the sand.

Cooper Discoverer ATR's are good on pavement and snow.

Buckshot are pretty good all around.

Check out TSL's tire selection, they have some decent tires

I just put on a set of TrailMark APR's. The tread looks good and the price was right I will see how they do. All of the research I did they seem to fair good. They are made by Kelly

If you want an M/T I'd get toyo hands down. They have the best tread compounds on the market and you'll get descent mileage out of them! Their A/T tires are on par with BF Goodrich

Re: All terrain tires that are good in snow

BFG all-terrain T/A's have great traction/wear characteristics, but a bit noisy for me. I drive 20k+ a year thats mostly highway. Switched to Cooper Discoverer A/T's and am impressed. Great traction in rain/snow and (mild) off-road, quiet and smooth highway ride/good wear/decent cost.
