Re: blue smoke

X2 - normal

The more miles that are on the engine, the more the engine will smoke. Keep in mind, driving short distances with a diesel aren't good, especially in cold weather. If you drive short sidtances (less than ten miles one way or less), be sure to take it for a good run every few weeks for a good 60-80miles. This will burn out any built-up condensation in the exhaust, and get all the parts warmed up. Diesels like to be worked.

Re: blue smoke

What's your mileage? The cat converter might be going out, or you might have another emissions problem, but a lot of cases, if a diesel engine has been worked, and has over 100K, blue smoke is not uncommon.

Re: blue smoke

" All my friends say your truck smokes too much ". as compared to what ? Do they all own diesles and theirs don't smoke ? I've NEVER seen a diesle that doesn't smoke at one time or another. You can't change the timing. The only thing that could cause smoke is
bad fuel and when the engine gets hot that too will stop smoking. If you go for milk after a 5 min. ride and shut it off and restart it again in 3 mins. you will have a smoke
problem. Diesles don't like to be cold. Sounds like you start it and drive. WRONG. Start it
when drive in about 5 - 10 mins. If it's a 5 min stop don't shut it off. If your that worried
about it have a 4 gas test done and check the fuel for contaminates. If it runs fine
leave it alone.

Re: blue smoke

To add: if you haven't any oil consumption leave it alone as well.
