busted fingers in bushing fight

Ok what is the magic trick to pressing on the bushing for the clutch rod bushing???? I have tore up to knuckles and my back hurts from laying on the floorboard. I new my clutch was weird feeling and started to check it out. Sure enough the bushing was pretty much gone. I got a new one and already destroyed it trying to get it on with a pair of channel locks. I have one new undestroyed one now. Please advise, over and out.

Which bushing are you referring to? Also, what vehicle is it?

Sorry I guess that would help. Its a 1996 F250 with the 7.5l. Its the bushing holding the clutch assembly to the push rod.
