Hi All:
New to me 1997 Ford F-250, 4x4, Reg cab, 8' bed, Auto trans w' 4.6 lt. motor. Fisher MM Plow, very clean truck.
After buying it, it has failed the "State of Mass." emmisions test. The dealer I bought it from was good & just (yesterday) installed a new EGR & O2 Sensor. After they did, I got in the truck to go home & about 30 seconds after starting the truck I heard a chiming/tone. It chimed 5 shorts tones, paused, did another 5 short tones & continued to do so a total of 5 times (in series of 5 tones) then it stopped. It almost sounds like a back up alarm and/or a seatbelt warning noise (comes from the dashboard).
I asked the dealer's mechanic & he tells me "it is the computer resetting itself after his work on the emmision system" and that "it will discountinue after so many key turn/starts".
It it now a day later & it does it every time I start the truck. Is he BS'ing me? or will it go away?
Any ideas?

I'd take it to a shop and get the computer scanned for error codes. Autozone will do it for free if you have one in your area
