confused Door Ajar in display

Hi All, I have a door ajar in the display. dome lights stay on with doors closed and ignition off but can shut off with dome light switch.Door ajar stays on with ignition on but hitting the odometer button clears wording in display and red door open icon stays on, door switches seem ok. very weird.

Re: Door Ajar in display

Sounds like you may have a loose connection someplace, if you give me a year, I might be able to get a schematic.

Re: Door Ajar in display

Year make and model would help. I would spray inside the door latches with some carb or brake cleaner. Sounds strange but we do it all the time. The factory switches are greased. We use the cleaner to soften the buildup around the switch. Once you spray inside the latches work the door a few times the work the switch. If it now functions you will have to rely brucite the latch assembly.

Re: Door Ajar in display

Its an '04 F-150. I ve narrowed it down to the passenger door. The driver door will activate the dome light and the message /odometer display, the passenger door does not. The switch I think is on the other end of a black arm that pivots at the halfway point between the hinges but can't see much beyond the rubber gasket. I tried de-oxit electrical spray thru the opening but nothing changed. Getting into the switch looks like a challenge. Thanks for your responses.

Re: Door Ajar in display

The switch is in the latch. It's not on the arm between the hinges.

Re: Door Ajar in display

Great! The shop manual has no details on this subject. I'll lube it up and see what happens. Thanks
