hello,
Im another new user ,1997 ford f150 v6, been running ok until today 4/25/10, got gas about a week ago. today drove for about twenty minutes parked vehicle. returned to vehicle started sputtered a little, then when gave more throttle tried to die so i let off the gas a little and it would run. while driving the truck twenty minutes died at one stop and at 60 mph or 2000rpm noticed it didnt want anymore throttle it would sputter down when given any more throttle,got it home now it wont start, it tries if you continually hold the ignition on but just sputters asecond or two, thanks for any help sam

Checked the fuel filter?

no but I will replace the fuel filter,is it located around the gas tank or filler neck area? do I need any special tool for it?

It's mounted on frame rail, drivers side, close to the fuel tank.

No special tools are needed.

how do i let the pressure off the fuel system or is it necessary?

I never do. A little gas comes out but not enough to worry about. Just catch the small amount in a container so it doesn't get on the floor. Only about 2 oz. come out when opening the line and then what's in the filter.
