EcoBoost F150 - are you in?
I'm just curious to know what YOU think about the upcoming 2011 F-150 with the 3.5 EcoBoost engine?
I know if Ford can promise 15/22 mpg it might be worth a look. Considering most half tons tow less than 3K it should return similar fuel economy under load as the old 4.2L V6, but beat it easily when empty.
I looked at some of the numbers and threw some info together myself, and if Ford uses a 6 speed automatic and keeps their peuny 3.31 gears, with 31" tires, the engine will cruise at approx 1650rpm at 60mph. Seems like a comfortable speed, but they had better allow a manual mode on that transmission or I don't think I'd consider it.
I'd much prefer a diesel in the upcoming lineup, however with emissions the way they are here, I don't want Ford to bring a diesel to market, and then have owners scrambling around to make sure they've topped up on urea fluid. Let alone the initial cost would have most folks forking out a few thousand more on a three quarter ton diesel instead.
I know all the particulars haven't been released yet, let alone solid EPA numbers, but would you buy one?
