Parked truck on saturday, went to start on friday, it would just clunk when turned it over, it finally started and is knocking really bad. What would it be when one minute its fine and the next its not. Checked oil just before that and had brown gunk on cap, sometimes just condensation.
Knocking kinda sounds from top end but not sure. Any suggestions??

Check for a manifold leak. There is a serious problem with those engines where antifreeze
gets into the cylindar. If you hear the knock your most likely done.

yep the 4.2 L is notorious for leaking antifreeze into the oil and i would put money on saying that what is going on with yours.
if the knocking sound comes and goes slightly now if you drive it any more it will cost more to repair later.

i would guess it might have spun a bearing or something pretty serious already to start knocking and you will need a rebuild by the sounds of it.
