I have a 2005 F-150 with 39000 miles. In the last couple of months it makes a whistling noise at about 2000 rpms when going down the highway. I don't think it is affecting performance, just annoying. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Is this a turbocharged model as a turbo charger can make a whistling sound at certain rev's with the engine under slight load and if it is tubo'ed and you have not noticed it before then maybe you should have it checked.

Its the alternator from what i have found out. Mine also does it when its cold out and like you it around 2000 rpm's when it does it.
I have a 2004 SuperCrew with a 4.6l engine. The whistling noise happens usually when the temperature is below -6deg Celsius. I brought it into a Ford Dealer and they said it was a problem with the valve design and there was nothing he could do about it. Hardly a suitable answer. Has anyone gone to FORD directly with this?
i have a 04 5.4 new style and mine doesnt whistle. I live in Montana btw. Gets about -20 degrees out... At least I have never heard it. Maybe its just trucks made at a certain plant?
