F-250 Computer Failure?

Driving to work this morning, flashed bright lights and truck shut down.
Thankfully I was on a fairly straight road as I had lost all power, no steering, no brakes. I had heard of computer failures in 7.3 diesel. Seems an awfully dangerous problem. Any feedback on personal experiences or news of similar incidents is welcome.

Re: F-250 Computer Failure?

I just had the PCM replace on my 94 F350 with the 7.3L Turbo IDI. When I bought the truck in late 9/04 it started having trouble shifting and I took it to the dealer they daid the coil pack it the tranny were bad so I had the changed. But I noticed the Tach was Jumping all over Before they were changed. When I got it back It shifted ok for not quite a year Still under warranty, then the said I had blown a HIDDEN FUSE in the dash board...Yead Right....But the tach was still jumping around....Then about 4 months later it started shifting bad again So I took it back to the dealer THIS TIME they tell me the PCM is bad OK so theres another $1000.00 BUT the tach is still jumping around not too long after that it starts not wanting to shift again...Well as you can imagine I'm pretty mad, So I take it back to the shop. They have it for 3 days tell me its done and to come pick it up. They want me to pay $400 for diagnostics because thier tech had not checked the connector when he attached it to the PCM and it pushed the pin back folded a wire and shorted it out. I told them not my problem, and if I wanted to get real nasty about it that the wire was probably my problem all along and I didn't need all the other stuff that they sold me and I might take them to court. Well they atee the last bill for $400 and since then the truck runs great and the tach works perfect. So as long winded as this may have been, in short check all of your connectors at the PCM for corrosion and freying (breaking) or pins that may be pushed back. because it can cause things to stop working as they should. OH and by the way I also had to replace my headlight switch and turn signal switch when I went to use the high beams...They just blew out.....They were all corroded....I wonder if I have flood damaged truck...Hmmmm
