F150 2008 stutter rough low revs issue

Hi guys,

New here to the forum. I'm hoping someone out there might be able to help me diagnose an issue on my 2008 f150 5.4, 300,000 kms

The truck is new to me in the last few months. I recently changed the oil and replaced the filter. Replaced it with 5W-20 oil. The oil that came out was very dark and heavy so must have been left a long time.

Ever since the oil has been changed I get a stuttering and rough running engine at low revs. Feels like it is going to conk out at any moment. Only happens when the engine has been running for a bit. No issues at higher revs, no engine warning lights or codes.

I've have checked and double checked the oil levels and that I put in the correct oil. When it happens if I turn it off and on again for the most part it stops happening.

I have done a bit of hunting around and people are saying its potentially related to oil pressure. I feel like it must be linked to having just changed to oil because the issue only started after the oil change

any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Check the PCV valve. Might want to run some SeaFoam or Marvel's Mystery oil through and give it another change. A proper teardown is probably in order, but on the cheap, if your problem is through neglect, this can help some.

Ever notice that there's so many high performance parts available for GM products?

Did you ever think that maybe they NEED them?

What kind of oil used? Conventional , semi synthetic , fully synthetic ? If low oil pressure it can affect operation of hydraulic lifters which will show in performance .May be a wild goose chase with the oil or just a coincidence .You could pull plugs and examine for clues , checking compressions at same time .Or it could be a ignition coil breaking down intermittently though you would think it would throw a code .

Never, never, never give up.
