F150 Starting issue

Hello all, first post here. My wife's 05 F150 which only has 23,000 miles is getting terrible to start. It's got the 5.4 3V and it is down right embarassing to start it around other people. When you attempt to start it just cranks and cranks, then it might catch and stumble then start. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 attempts to start it. The fuel filter and air filters have been changed.

I've had it into the dealer twice, the first time they said nothing was wrong and there weren't any TSB's. The second time they replace the MAP sensor and said all was good. It obviuosly is not otherwise I wouldn't be here.

I imagine others have had this same issue. What was it so I can tell them what to look at. The dealership is clueless, what a shock.

How well does the vehicle run once it's started? Have you had it checked for DTC's. Check fuel pressure at the rail.

It runs fine once started and has not thrown any codes. Any others out there having this issue?

You first have to diagnose if it's getting fuel when its cranking. If it is, then determine if you are getting spark. If you are getting spark and fuel, then it's computer related to mechanical such as maybe a crankshaft position sensor or a cam sensor.
