confused F250 1991 Diesel glow plug problem

Hi,
Thanks for your comments on this. It seems as though my glow plugs are not heating sufficiently. When I turn the ignition to activate the glow plugs the gp light only stays on for a short time and then goes out but there is a click, click, click that happens for about 20 clicks in conjunction with the amp needle bouncing. The truck then does not fire up as if the glow plugs have done their job. The truck runs fine once it is going but it takes alot of cranking to get it going.

Is there a relay or fuse that has gone bad or do I need to replace the glow plugs or something. This just started happening two days ago and all was good before that.

Thanks in advance for your time and insight.

Re: F250 1991 Diesel glow plug problem

I have a 1997 f350 PS and it has a glow plug timer relay I had to replace. It`s on top of the engine just to the left and back of the fuel filter housing. The wait to start light is supposed to stay on for a few seconds but the glow plug relay times it for 2 minutes. You can try this. Turn your switch on and when the light goes out turn it off, then on, then off a few times and then try to start it. I`m assuming you are not in real cold weather.
