Hello, I am new to this forum. I have a 2002 F250 7.3 disel, When the temp drops below 20-15 F i Can't get it started. Charging system is good, Glow plugs seem good. It starts fine when the temp is higher. I am going to put a block heater in, the kind that goes into the freezer plug. Will this solve the problem?
I'm pretty sure there was a block heater installed at the factory. They come with the cord tied in a bundle right at the block, and the dealer is supposed to untie the bundle and thread it out to one if the tow hooks. Have you ever crawled under the truck and looked?
If you don't have one, you should definitely install a freeze plug heater. Then go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get a "heavy Duty" plug-in timer (rated for at least 10 amps). Set the timer to turn the heater on about 1 hour befor you leave if the truck is in a garage, 2 hours if it sits outside.
