f250 shift tube

I have a 99 F-250 with 7.3 diesel. I have read a lot on this forum and in others about the recurring problems with the overdrive switch problems and the wire chaffing that occurs on the harness in the steering column. My particular problem is that i can't turn off overdrive and the switch is totally non responsive. I want to remove the shift tube and repair the harness. I think the switch is ok and the wire in the harness is grounding out or totally broken. Anyway, has anyone out there ever removed the harness in the shift tube and what help can you give me as far as disassembly of the shift tube and where the harness plugs into the column? I'm hoping this repair does not require the steering wheel to be pulled with the airbag to deal with and all. Instructions on how to disassemble or any other input would be greatly appreciated. Also, i'm getting ready to replace the glo plug relay and could use some insight on that as well. Thanks in advance and please email me direct and respond on the forum at william.bailey@att.net
