F250 Trans swap - Ford Forums

This site has helped me in the past so I'm reaching out again to this auto think tank.
I have an 84 F250 2wd auto w/460. The tranny is about to retire any second. I also have a 70 LTD w/429 that is totaled and going to the crusher (310 bucks a ton here : ), but the tranny is still good. Will this LTD tranny fit up to my F250 460?

I'm getting some yes and some no from local wrenchers and salvage yards. I guess the main difference would be in the tail shaft, but other then that, the LTD 429 c6 trans should bolt up to the F250 460. Does anyone know if there is an online parts cross reference that I can try? Google didn't find one.
I'll try and get a side by side visual and go from there...

Not much interest in this subject, but thought I'd post what I found. The tail on the LTD C6 trans is an inch longer and the splines were possibly different then the C6 trans in the F250. I could have went through the headache of pulling both and swapping tails shafts, but found the right trans for 125.00 and went that direction and I got 640.00 cash for the LTD at the crusher. : )
