Thanks for letting me be part of the Ford Forum. I am looking forward to reading and chatting with you about one of my favorite subjects........My old Ford truck!

welcome to fordforums. its nice to see someone els with a truck. i drive an 82 f100. my wifes uncle has a 63 f100 that i was going to buy this spring, it looks like it will be some time in the fall when i buy it. either way he's holding it for me. you'll have to tell us more about your truck.

I'm driving a second owner 1965 short bed f100. It has the original 240-6 and 3 speed trany. Overall it's in pretty good condition but still needs a lot of tlc before I'm through with it.
I am currently in the process of rebuilding a 300-6 to replace the tired 240 and would really like to convert the 3 speed to an automatic. But, only if I can find a good donor truck of a compatable year/model. I like to keep things as near to O.E.M. as possible without many modifications.
I am in despirate need of a bed with a solid floor in it. the original owner put plywood in it to protect the floor. Now there is no original floor.

how is it to get parts for the 240 six. the truck i'm buying has the 240 with the three speed. the engine is gonna need to be rebuilt. i want to keep it as original as i can. the body needs some work, but its solid enough to restore.

Mark,
I haven't had any problems getting parts for my 240-6 so far. I don't know if you know this or not but the only major difference in the 240-6 and the 300-6 is the stroke. There are a few other minor differences but most of the parts are interchangeable.
Someone would have to look real close to notice the difference in the 2 engines. The 240 has only 150 hp. The 300-6 has approximately 175 and noticeable torque improvement.

i never knew the 240 and 300 were interchangable with each other. i havent opened the hood on the 63 yet or i would have seen that. thanks for pointing that out for me. i have a 300 out of my 82 that i was trying to decide what to do with it. i now have an other incentive to get moving and get the truck.

It's nice to find another site for ford trucks....

Mine's a 62 stepside with a 292 and a 3 speed.
The frame and all mechanicals are finished. Now i need to start on the body. Wish me luck.

You might consider checking out the Slick 60's Club. They are a bunch of real knowledgeable people with a lot of experience with the preservation and restoration of 1961 to 1966 Ford F and Mercury M Series trucks. http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/fordpickups61to66fseries

The 240-6 and the 300-6 engines both share the same bell housing and transmission bolt patern as the small block engines, such as the 302, 351w.

Good luck with your 62 stepside project. When you get your truck ready for a photo, send me a copy and I'll post it amoung the other's on the Slick 60's garage. That goes for you too Mark!

welcome aboard. sounds like you've put a lot of work into your truck. what needs to be done on the body? are you building the truck for a daily driver or for show? you'll have to give us more details.

It's in primer now. I don't think there is a straight panel on it. I'll get a picture soon and post it on the yahoo site. (and here if I figure out how)

I intend this truck to be a good reliable fun truck to drive. I'm not interested in show quality or a perfect restoration. I'm doing all the work myself, so it will be a perpetual work in progress.

I found a set of 1962 Ohio plates for it the other day. It's possible to register the plates to the truck as historic plates. This will make a cool addition.
