Fuel Gauges not working on either tank

I have two F350's The firt one is a 1990 Diesel duel tank both fuel gauges are not working when I disconnected the wiring at the tank the gauge jumpet to above full and when I pluged it back in it went right to empty.I checked all of the fuses and they seem to be working fine, and I cannot seem to find much inf on them in the Haynes book.
The second F350 is a 1996, i have not checked this one out but it has the same problem with the fuel gauges. this one is a 460 gas engine and either gauge works on this truck.Any Idea as to what it could be and hoe to test to see if i need to replace the unit in the tank.

Re: Fuel Gauges not working on either tank

Greetings,
I've just joined this Forum is search of a possible solution to a very similar problem to yours. I have a '92 F-250, 5.0, and the fuel gauge, regardless of either tank, shows only about 1/8 tank level. This has existed for over 5 years now and I've been told, though not directly involved, that many attempts to effect a repair have proven fruitless. A greater problem emerged because of this in that we tend to alternatlingly run one of the tanks dry, which then has led to a premature failure of the fuel pumps as they lubricate themselves via the fuel in the tank.
So, I'm curious to know if you've had any progress in resolving your issue despite not seeing any replies from other Forum pariticpants.
Thanks,
Steve
