Fuel Shut off problem
Help.................
We have a fuel shut off problem with our '95 Ford 250 Direct Inject Diesel. The following is a brief description of that problem (sorry it so lengthy) .
Starting May or so of last year the truck started this business of occasionally cutting out (or as I call it, hiccupping). If we were driving and the truck was in motion it would hiccup but keep moving, not stall out. However, if we were at a stop sign and this occurred, then the truck would stop (turn off) but we could start it up right away and go. As time went on, this occasional hiccup problem increased more often to once a day and sometimes twice a day and again however, it might go a day or so and nothing happening, so there was no pattern we could figure out here. About five or six months down the road, it appeared that the problem had started working itself out because it was rarely hiccupping. However in Dec. of last year, the truck while in motion, cut out and we had to pull over to the side of the road, we tried to start it and it would not start. My husband thought there might be water/moisture in the fuel somehow so he drain a bit off the top (this is in the engine area up by the firewall , I am assuming there is another fuel pump located here) and then the truck would start and run for a short distance and then cut out again and finally it just wouldn't turn over. We had to be towed to our house (which took about an hour). The truck was left to sit in the driveway for another hour and then we decided to try and see if it would turn over and it did. The truck was left to idling in the driveway for about 30 minutes or so and we even drove it around the neighborhood after that, and it was fine. The next day we had to make a 2 1/2 hour trip. We had been driving a half hour when the truck cut out (shut off) but we were able to restart and it was fine all the rest the way to our destination ( 2 hrs later).
This weekend we drove the truck up town and on the way home it again cut out and shut off and wouldn't start right away, but after letting it sit for 20 minutes, it started up and we got it home.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
