confused Help me with my K&N

my brother drove a '97 4.6L F150, he totalled it a week ago. He kindly let me take the K&N systm off of it. I drive a '99 F150 5.6L triton.

My question is: will the K&N filter from a 4.6L '97 work for my 5.6L '99?

any help would be Great

Thanks yall

Re: Help me with my K&N

Did you bore the engine out to 5.6L? Ford only made a 4.6L & a 5.4L.

The filter will probably work, but if it's an open-element, it's not worth having.

Re: Help me with my K&N

"Open-element" means "not in a box", like the K&N FIPK. The one to get is the regular drop-in direct-replacement filter, which goes in the factory box.

Re: Help me with my K&N

One way to Check is to go to the K&N website and putting in your info and find the same Cold Air Intake and check to see if the model is the same compared to the 97 and 99 and the size difference in motors...But I believe it will fit fine

Re: Help me with my K&N

I just went to the knfilters.com website and looked at this item number which is what I have on my 4.6L V8

77-2514KP

I also looked at a 1999 5.4 and they sell the same model number for that truck as well. SO it looks like your all set!

Re: Help me with my K&N

oh dang! I guess I should pay more attention to what I read before I post. If you have been given the whole Cold Air Intake then awesome. If you have just received the filter then Im not sure if itll fit unless the factory intakes of both years and size engines are the same. The only gain you will get with a K&N filter is that it is reuseable and slightly better flowing. But with performance, you want the whole intake.
