1991 ford f150 xlt lariat 5.0

i removed the distributer with out making any markings and now i cant get my truck to start it hasent ran in a year tho but it whouldnt turn over untill i replaced the chip on the side of it i removed the distributer to put that chip in and i was wondering did i mess up the timing or is their a nother reason for my problems

Of course you messed up dist. timing. Get #1 piston at the top on compression stroke, drop the dist. in with the rotor pointing to #1 spark plug wire on the cap.

may need to throw a timing light on it aswell. i never have just tuned it to ear ran it up the road turned it some more and if it ran better i keep turning it. you can advance it or retard it depending on which way you move it. counter clockwise will advance the spark before the piston reachs tdc and turning it clockwise will retard it sending it closer towards tdc. just dont advance it to far when you turn it off it may not like to start back up.
