Lone Ranger, F-250 in Australia

We only have F-250s and 350s lately since 2001-06 in Australia. There have been some reported automatic transmission failures towing big loads in the Outback. Is the Auto a weakness in the Ford when towing big loads? I am an enthusiast, owned a 1993 350, that went through an E4OD trans with a 29' gooseneck horsefloat in tough going. Now bought a 2003 F-250. Towing a 3000kg trailer, is the tranny a weak point enough to look for a spare? Or only if you chip up the motor too far and play with converter locks? You guys in the USA have more Fords than we have people, so I thought you might know..... Is the auto trans weak in the F-250 or not? There seems to be a lot of smoke (discussion) on it here, with some strong opinions, is there fire.... Or is it just jealous non Ford rice grinder owners....?
