The are many aftermarket companies that offer a "Programmer" or a "chip" for the 7.3L Diesel. Also a large 4" exhaust would increase power.

I hope you have a fat wallet..... black smoke means you're pissing away partially burned fuel - and it only happens when you're really on the throttle; a time when you're getting poor mileage even with the proper fuel/air mix.

How much of that do you want to do at 3 bucks a gallon?

A low-restriction air intake, like a K&N, coupled with a large-diameter exhaust will give you a little more power, and actually INCREASE your fuel mileage, a sensible move.

Yeah man! I have to agree with wwb! Black smoke is going to kill the mileage and HP.

A 4" exhaust isn't going to do anything for a diesel you until you start pushing 350-400 Hp. Remove your muffler first, it's not that much louder, but it will give you a great exhaust note.
