Newbie who needs help fast

I am thinking about buying a 1998 ford e150 van with a v8 engine . It sounds like it may have a exhaust leak. But it runs and drivs great . It has 179,000 miles on it . It is trashed on the inside but the outside looks great . He wants 1000.00 $ at a dealership after talking him down . I am trying to use it to haul my motorcycle around . I have a 1600 mile trip coming up. Is it worth buying ? If so , how much do you think it would cost for preventive maintenance to go the 1600 mile trip. I know this van won't last long so please , I need some answers

If you gave it a good road test and no major issues , cant be bad at that price .Before a trip of that distance I'd get the exhaust checked out and fixed , engine oil and filter changed and brakes / tyres looked over .Also trans. fluid condition and level and basics like lights , spare tyre , jack etc .
