The oil pressure gauge shows good pressure when cold. After driving a few miles when i stop (idle) the gauge flickers and goes down to zero. Start driving and the gauge looks good. I changed the oil 3 days ago and there was basically no oil in the filter. This is the 2nd time for that. Can any one tell me what's going on and if "I" can fix this. 95 F-150 160000mi. Thanks Gunny
I'd get the pump replaced if there's no oil in the filter. Pressure might show good on the gauge but it's not getting the full pressure throughout the entire block.
The oil pressure is good with the oil cold, then after warm up goes to zero at idle but back up when driving usually means bearing wear. With the excessive wear/clearance at the main & rod bearings the oil pressure is lost there.
When you bring engine to operating temp, idling with zero oil pressure, sure the filters gonna be sucked dry. Start the engine for a second cold, then when oil pressure is up kill it the remove oil filter, it will be full.
