I have a 1999 F250 v10 6.8L and when I was driving home today, the off light on the steering column next to where it says overdrive was blinking. What might have caused this? The truck was also switching gears harshly.

i had a 1996 f250 and it was the switch in the end of the gear shifter.it was doing the same thing as yours

I had this problem with one of my fords. First try turning off the truck and restarting it this will reset the computer(you might have to open and close the drivers door also after turning it off to reset). If this doesn't work it is an indicator that the trans needs repair. Wish you the best.

sometimes the sensor is defective or covered with varnish. An oil change or addition of a good automatic transmission conditioner/sealer will frequently fix that without taking anything apart

when the overdrive light blinks it indicates that the transmission has thrown a code you need to hook up a code reader and get the code. if it shifting harsly deffenatly don't drive it or you will screwing something up inside take it to a shop if you don't now what your doing
