Are there any tricks to use if your out in the middle of no where and the starter goes out? It happened to me once, I was 100 miles from home and ended up having to have the truck towed to a mechanic after my dad and I couldn't figure out how to install it. I contemplated about carrying an extra alternator and starter but haven't yet.

It depends, of course if it's a straight drive you can easily push start it. Sometimes a tap with a hammer will get ya going. I normally take a tool box when I trave out of town.

Do you mean put the car in neutral and push and then turn the ignition, I have a automatic? Anyone know whats the most reliable kind of starter? How long do they usually last under low use? I recently changed the starter in my boat engine and noticed that it was from 1984. Thanks

well i have a 2001 f250 and i just changed the started a month ago...it was a bear too. and it was actin up for several months before it died
