Hello.
I drive a 97 f150 and just yesterday after coming back from the bush, I went to go take a drive down to the store and when i started my truck and went to shift into D, it would not let me get out of park, so i went online did some searching and found several things. So i went and put the key to pos. 1 and shifted to N and started up and was on my way. I went to go somewhere else again later and it did it to me again, had to repeat the process. Now this morning it shifted out of park just fine (after sitting overnight)
I noticed that my third brake light is not working now either, does this mean i blew my fuse for the park lock/brake lights?
I played around with it last night trying to get it to shift out of park, seems almost has to do with how i step on the brake pedal maybe, make me wonder if its a switch then perhaps. I'm not sure what or where this would be. Any thoughts? i don't have a Hanes manual for my truck yet at the moment.

In most cases, it's the stoplight switch on the brake pedal. Check that and see if it's working or if the wires and connector to it are defective.
