frown tranny

2000 F250 had tranny rebuilt last year, added a new cooler in front of radiator and gauge on door post. I pull a 30 ft. trailer at 60 mph but the gauge is starting to read in the yellow... what can I do? fluid is still pink not turning brown...

Re: tranny

Yellow? Is that good or bad? Running hot or cool? I imagine hot....

First, if you have an automatic transmission, make sure you drive in 3rd gear (whatever gear that is 1:1) do NOT tow in overdrive, or you'll be asking for the transmission to overheat. RPM's should be in the 2600-2900rpm range if you have a gas engine at 60mph. Higher engine rpm puts less strain/drag on the transmission which decreases heat.

You can replace the engine thermostat with a cooler one. Stock engines almost always come with a 195F stat. You can check out Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto for a replacement 180F stat, which will lower engine temp and can help lower the trans temp. It's a $10 part for a 180F stat.

Re: tranny

Sounds like the trans cooler may be too small. Might consider a larger one or even a finned/tubed transmission pan to help cool the fluid.
