transmission fluid change

'08 250 4x4, I'm going to change the transmission fluid but looking to see what's "normal".
Do I change just the fluid in the transmission ? or change the fluid in the torque converter also ?

On my truck, it appears the transmission filter is external to the tranny, hanging on a bracket below the torque converter. I have not removed it yet, but if I do is there access to a drain plug for the torque converter?

Thanks

Re: transmission fluid change

There is no drain on the convertor. I don't believe there's a trans filter outside the transmission unless it's been added.

Re: transmission fluid change

Sounds like you might have an aftermarket add on addition in line filter like one of these:

Magnefine--Your Source For Magnefine Inline Filters
BD-Power In-Line Transmission Filter Kit #1064017
In-line transmission filters & temperature gauges: transmissioncoolers.us

If so there will be another filter inside the transmission sump that will also need to be changed.

Follow these instructions to change (flush) all the fluid http://www.amsoil.com/faqs/ATF_and_F...Procedures.pdf
