My step-son has a 1978 F150 truck. Two weeks ago the truck wouldn't start so my stepson decided that the starter was bad so he bought a new starter. Since he couldn't get the truck started I went over to see what I could do. The first thing I did was to move the fan belts which caused the craink shaft to turn. When my step-son tried the truck again it started. I am thinking that there is probably a tooth mising on the flywheel and by moving it then the starter was able to start the truck.
Two days later my step-son comes over to my house and replaces the starter with the new one he purchased. When he tried to start the truck the starter solenoid smoked. I bought a new starter solenoid on my way home and installed it after I reinstalled the starter. The truck started without any problems and ran great for a week.
The problem we are having with the truck now is that the truck will not shutoff when the truck is turned off an the key has been removed from the truck. We pulled the coil wire to get the truck to turn off.

Anyone know what the problem would be?

I don't remember if that year had a connection on the solenoid to give 12v to the coil wehn cranking. If it does, and the connection gets connected with the solenoid, maybe it's staying connected in the solenoid.
