Re: V8 vs V6?

Wife's V6 gets only 1.5mpg more than my 5.4 V8. It's 5 years newer than my 02 so I'm not impressed. I get 12.5 in the city and last highway check was withold rear gear and got 16.4mpg. I'm getting 12.3-12.5mpg in the city with the 4.56s believe it or not.

Re: V8 vs V6?

For the weight of a 4x4 your better off to get the 8 cylinder. If you plan just to haul yourself and a couple of fast food meals then the V6 will do fine. The V6's are well proven engines that should last just as long as any V8. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and budget. Even if you get the V6 and add shorter gears as kaboom10 did, you'll have near V8 performance around town where it matters most! Highway mileage won't be as kind however.

Re: V8 vs V6?

First thing you have to consider is the yr of the engines tou're wanting to compare. They have made vast improvments in the newer 6 cylinders from the past. A V8 is going to have more torque and horsepower to pull loads if that what you want. If you just want to drive it a 6 cylinder will do.

Re: V8 vs V6?

I agree with 360ci

It all depends on budget(can you afford the gas?) Also, the use. Is it going to be for towing or hauling or just driving around town? If you do get a V8, there are ways of improving gas mileage. I drive a 1997 F-150 V8 Automatic and the way I drive it I get about 250 miles per tank. Lately, I've done some modifications and now I get about 280 miles per tank(***without going completely empty***) and the last mod I hope to get 300 miles to the tank.
