Exclamation vibration 4x4 shifter and front end f250

Manual 4x4 shifter, hubs, manual trans. At 50+ mph, I get a vibration that rattles the 4x4 shifter (both engaged and disengaged). The vibration is stronger the higher the speed. Doesn't happen consistantly, but rather often. Help please?

Re: vibration 4x4 shifter and front end f250

If it does it with the front prop shaft disengaged, then the source of the excitation would most likely be in the rear end....

Tires balanced?

Prop shaft bent/unbalanced?

Rear shocks?

Springs/shackles/saddles/bolts all okay?

If the vibration is tied to road speed rather than engine speed, you can discount the engine/trans as being the source of the vibration. The transfer case may be the culprit, since it is tied directly to road speed, but it's darned unlikely, as they are so simple, and have such low rotating mass.

Re: vibration 4x4 shifter and front end f250

went out last night and tried running with the hubs engaged, in 4low, in 4 hi in 2 hi, then disengaged all and tried that. Now, I get to 60k and the whole thing just starts to shake and it feels like the transfer case is engaged, but not like when it is in 4 low. It is like something is stuck in gear, but not completely. Feels like gears dragging it down but also like it is not balanced at the same time.
