Lightning Advice

First off, I'm Red. This will be the first car I buy for myself. I'm in the market for a '03-'04 Lightning and was hoping someone on here could give me some tips for searching for information about the vehicles. My biggest fear is finding one that has an engine thats been beat to piss by some kid. What kind of truck could I expect to get for 15-16K, and what would, if any, are some key things I should look for when inspecting one.

I don't have a problem travelling or getting it shipped, but are there any states I should possibly avoid?

Are there any big costs I should be concerned with buying a truck with 60-80,000 miles on it.

hoping this forum is active enough to get some good feedback.
