Petter Solberg leads the way after the opening leg of Rally Japan, three stage wins giving him a lead of 22.9secs over Sebastien Loeb who is on course for the podium which will give him the 2005 WRC title. Marcus Gronholm remains in touch in third, with Chris Atkinson an impressive fourth, although the Aussie has dropped back after leading early on. Mitsubishi duo Harri Rovanapera and Gigi Galli hold fifth and sixth, with Francois Duval and Roman Kresta rounding out the points. In the Production Car World Rally Championship, Japanese driver Fumio Nutahara holds a slender lead over countryman Toshi Arai.{br}{br}
