The Ford 460 was last used in 1979 when it could no longer pass US emmissions requirements. The other V-8 engine was the 302 that was used in MANY models but made famous in the Mustang as the 5.0.

==================================================================================================== ============== Thanx for your reply , However...I am not reffering to the 460 from the '385' Series of Ford V8 Big Blocks , I am reffering to the Lincoln 'MEL' Series 430 Cubic Inch[1958 till 1965] and 462 Cubic Inch[1966 Till ????] Engines. Your 302 refferances are not what I am seeking information on...Thanx , Bradford!!!

You're welcome.
In my previous post, I referenced and linked to, "My only reference for pre-1970's engine data is the printed Standard Catalog Of® Ford."

Have you been able to find this publication?
Thanx..I have this already, but it does not seem to contain a broad and in depth enough amount of information about these. We are looking for pictures of stock engines , Modified engines , positive/negatives and or general advice, tips and recommendations about the engines and parts from individuals or groups with personal experience etc...Not just a short history or Specifications lists!!! Thanxalot for your efforts...Bradford !!!
I have also recently discovered this MEL (?) engine and am incredibly interested in finding out about them... so even if someone finds this post in 6 - 12 months and has some knowledge about them... Please leave a post....

Ha!!! Not much seems to happen here and it would seem you could have to wait that long for a response!!! I have'nt found out much else about the 383,430 and 462 MEL Engines except for a few people have told me they are related to and some parts interchange off the Ford Truck Super-Duty V8 401,477 and 534 Cubic Inch Petrol Engines???
Since my last post here have been informed that the 'slab sided Lincolns' i.e 1961 - 65 models used a smaller port head akin to the aussie 351 2v's whilst the earlier Mercury's & Lincoln's used a head more akin to the aussie 4v's (bigger ports) and that (I'm told) was because of a low bonnet and apparently the inlet manifolds are higher (and have bigger runners) on the 58-59 Mel 430's... any feedback would be good. Apparently the 462 is interchangeable with the 430 in a '65 Lincoln.. some parts are supposed to be interchangeable with the FE series... not sure about what though...early (again not sure) MEL's used the same bolt pattern for the transmission as FE's.. Also that in the early 60's in the US the MELs were used by hot rodders for drag racing etc and as a result of this alloy finned valve covers, sports intake manifolds, lumpy cams etc were available.. would like to know a bit more about that... also am wondering if Lincoln MELs came standard with 'roller cams'... when was the C6 introduced in Lincolns.... if someone can answer some of these I would be extremely grateful..
